The DVR allows you to view all your cameras live over the internet. Simply plug the DVR into your broadband connection to view live or recorded footage, and transfer video to your computer. Again,it’s like buying a computer with the memory issue. more memory means better performance. but have to be compatible with the processor chip was designed for. 8 cameras was the normal setting and optimal performance setting for the defender. maxing out the unit will not help because that’s doubling the load and using every memory the unit has. processing 8 live video and 16 live video has a big difference in quality and operating heat. doubling the processor’s task will only shorten your units lifespan. in electronics we usually leave a 30 percent allowance before the maximum load capacity in any gadget. depending on the circuitry of the the dvr unit. it is clear that this unit was just a cheap trick to impress you its capability of handling 16 camera heads but didn’t announce its drawbacks.its all in the marketing technique. it would all be better if you honestly declare these at first therefore making your client understand the units capability rather than this strings attached or has a catch type of approach. but all in all with 8 camera heads this unit works just fine.
